Procida is a small island in the Campania region of southern Italy: only 4 square kilometers of land (about 1,6 square miles). That's why it is very easy to move from one part of the island to the other, even on foot. However, there is also a bus service that connects the various locations on the island, which you can consider taking if it's too hot to walk or if you are tired after a long day at the beach.

Here are our tips for getting around the beautiful island of Procida.

How to Get around Procida by Bus

Buses on Procida are run by the EAV transport company and connect all locations on the island. The terminal is near the church of Santa Maria della Pietà at the port of Marina Grande, where ferry services run from/to the bay of Naples, Pozzuoli, the Italian island of Ischia, and - during the high season - Capri and the Amalfi Coast, as well.

There are four bus routes and they run about every 30 minutes. Schedules may vary because buses departing from the port wait for ferries or hydrofoils from the Gulf of Naples to disembark.

How to Get around Procida by Taxi

  • How to get around Procida

At the port of Marina Grande, you will find both traditional seven-seat taxis and "micro taxis", basically traditional Italian Ape tuk-tuks suitable for moving around the narrow streets of the island.

If you have little time to visit Procida, you could hire one to take you around for a guided tour of the entire island with stops at the most beautiful scenic overlooks to take in the pastel fishing villages and bobbing fishing boats along the coastline lapped by the Mediterranean Sea from the highest points on the island. Or, you can use it for transportation like a regular taxi.

How to Get around Procida by Car

We do not recommend renting a car in Procida: the streets are narrow, there are few parking lots and, considering the size of the islands, there is no real need to rent or bring a car.
However, there are small four-passenger open cars available for daily rental.

How to Get around Procida by Scooter

Getting around Procida by rental scooter is one of the easiest ways to explore the island on a day trip to enjoy complete freedom without getting caught in high-season traffic. With a scooter, you can visit top beaches like La Lingua, Marina Corricella, Chiaia Beach, Ciraccio Beach, and Chiaiolella Beach. You can also stop to admire cultural sights like the Abbazia di San Michele Arcangelo, Palazzo d'Avalos, and Santa Maria delle Grazie.

Scooter Rental
At the port, you will find several agencies where you can rent a scooter to explore from one end of the island to the other. Electric bikes are also available for rent.
